This research constructed and explained a model of innovation in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). This work took a confirmatory quantitative approach, as data were collected through a questionnaire administered to administrative and teaching staff at 77 private and public HEIs. This was achieved using a five-point Likert scale. The results improved the understanding of the practices that explain innovation in HEIs. Through a literature review, a framework was established that supported the construction of the theoretical model. This framework established the types of Innovation and their subsequent verification through empirical data testing. The model was empirically tested using the Structural Equation Modeling method, which corroborated the measurement scales for the study variable and confirmed the existence of relationships between the theoretical constructs.
